It is vested with powers to regulate activities related to both internal and external trade that had previously been performed by the Board of External Trade and the Board of Internal Trade. The enactment of a law to establish TanTrade was a major step in concretizing the transformation process of trade in Tanzania. TanTrade has an extended mandate of developing both internal and external trade and regulating international trade fairs held in Tanzania. TanTrade is Tanzania's premier national organization in the development and promotion of trade both domestic and international. The primary objective is to address bottlenecks that are facing traders, exporters, and producers of goods and services intending to increase the performance of the trade sector in the economy. Following its launch in 2010, TanTrade has been going through several processes and efforts to reposition itself to meet the wider mandate of consolidating internal and external trade development and promotion as well as regulating international trade fairs held in the country compared to import and export promotion roles of the former Board of Internal Trade (BIT) and Board of External Trade (BET). Major efforts have been to reposition TanTrade by defining its clear Vision and Mission Statements as well as Core Values which aim to address various operational challenges in the trade sector and most significant ones include changes in the global trade environment, and the need to refocus the sector to become a significant contributor to the growth of National economy and the achievement of the objectives of Tanzania's Vision 2025. The review of current functions and organizational structure aims to provide h the Authority with an efficient structure that facilitates the provision of quality services to the public and can deliver the desired outcomes.
